Paneer tikka is a popular North Indian dish where paneer (Indian cottage cheese) is marinated in spiced yogurt and grilled. The word "tikka" refers to small pieces of meat or vegetables cooked on skewers.

Originally a meat dish, paneer tikka became a vegetarian favorite. It's often served as an appetizer or main course, accompanied by mint chutney and onion rings.

Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 400g paneer, cubed
  • 1 cup thick yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

For the Skewers

  • 1 bell pepper, cubed
  • 1 onion, cubed
  • 1 tomato, cubed
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Wooden skewers
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

Prepare Paneer

Cut paneer into 1-inch cubes. Pat dry with paper towel.

Make Marinade

Mix yogurt with all spices, ginger-garlic paste, and lemon juice.

Marinate Paneer

Add paneer cubes to marinade. Gently mix and marinate for 30 minutes.

Prepare Vegetables

Cut bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes into similar-sized cubes.

Soak Skewers

Soak wooden skewers in water for 15 minutes to prevent burning.

Thread Skewers

Alternate paneer and vegetables on skewers. Don't overcrowd.

Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line baking tray with foil.

Brush skewers with oil. Arrange on prepared baking tray.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.
